Woman Assaulted Outside Portsmouth Court

An investigation is underway after a woman told police she was seriously sexually assualted outside Portsmouth's Crown Court.

Officers were called shortly before 1.30am on the morning of Sunday, November 18, 2012 after a woman said she had been attacked by a man near the disabled access ramp outside the building in Winston Churchill Avenue.

A 23-year-old man from Gosport was arrested, interviewed, and bailed until January 15, 2013 pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Alison Richards of Portsmouth CID said "Police are appealing for witnesses to this sexual assault, which took place during the early hours of Sunday morning. Officers would like to hear from anyone who was out at around 1am, and who may have seen or heard anything that may assist the investigation".
