Woman Charged Over Facebook Post

A 23-year-old woman from Southsea has been charged with sending a 'grossly offensive electronic communication' by officers investigating offensive posts Facebook.

Michaela Kathleen Turner, of Lumsden Road, Southsea, was arrested at her home address on Friday 24th May after a post was uploaded to Facebook at 10.42pm on Wednesday evening. It has now been removed.
 
Police say she was charged with an offence contrary to section 127 of the Communication Act 2003 and has been released on bail to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates Court on June 7.
 
Officers also say that following the terrorist incident in Woolwich this week, they are working closely with local partnership groups to safeguard all members of the community. This includes monitoring social networking sites, and will seek to arrest and prosecute anyone inciting hatred or violence online.
