Woman Hit By Skip Lorry In Chichester

At 9am this morning (Thursday 9 February), emergency services were called to Whyke Road, Chichester, after a skip lorry and a woman pedestrian had been in collision.

The 37-year old local woman was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where she is in a stable condition with serious but not life threatening leg injuries.

The woman's two daughters, aged three and five, had been with her at the time on their scooters, as she was taking the five-year old to the nearby primary school. One of the girls received slight grazing but neither needed hospital treatment.

Although it appears the lorry was driving at a slow speed the woman was dragged along for a short distance before it came to rest. She had managed to push at least one of her daughters to safety as the collision occurred.

The road was closed but is expected to be opened by early afternoon.

Nobody else was injured.

Inspector Phil Nicholas of the Sussex Road Policing Unit said; "We are in the early stages of establishing exactly what happened and would like any witnesses to contact us via 101 quoting Operation Bass."
