A biker's been jailed for three years for running over and killing a three year old girl near Southampton.

3-year-old Billie King from Bursledon was struck by a blue Honda motorcycle on Hamble Lane in Bursledon shortly after 7pm on Thursday 1st March 2012. She had been crossing the road with her family, from behind a row of cars.

38-year-old Stephen Moon from Sopwith Road in Eastleigh admitted causing death by dangerous driving - a court heard he was doing nearly 50 in a 30 limit. As well as the three year jail term, he was also handed a three-year driving ban.

At the time of Billie's death, her family issued a statement which said:

“We are absolutely heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful little princess Billie.

“She made friends with everyone she met and her smile could light up the darkest room.

“We would like to thank everyone for all the kindness and support that they have shown our family at this devastating time.

“Billie was a gorgeous girl just beginning to blow the bubbles of life. She will be deeply missed.

“We now ask that we be left alone to come to terms with our loss.

“Thank you.”

Heart spoke to Dr Ian McKellan who lives on Hamble Lane where the collision happened. He arrived home shortly afterwards..
