What is Black Friday?

It's a tradition that started in America, where stores would drop their prices the day before Thanksgiving. Retailers in the UK introduced the sales day over seas to entice shoppers on the run up to Christmas, hoping to cash in.

Why is it called Black Friday?

The name is thought to stem from the 'black ink' used on balance sheets from the huge profits the retailers make on this day, rather than red ink used to identify a loss. Some would argue that it's referred to as Black Friday because of the chaos it causes in the stores, when shoppers loose all sense of inhibitions in order to get their hands on a bargain.

What sort of deals am I likely to see?

The retailers that have already announced that they'll be taking part are: Amazon, Argos, Currys, Tesco, John Lewis, Boots, Sainsbury’s, Debenhams, eBay, House of Fraser, River Island, Topshop, ASOS, New Look, Very, M&S, Game, Maplin and The Body Shop.

Discounted items include all kinds of technology, clothing and cosmetics. Flights have also been known to go on sale on Black Friday through 'flash sales' so look out for these on EasyJet, Virgin, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Aer Lingus, Emirates, WOW air, Ryanair and Qatar Airlines.

What are the deals that I can get my hands on?

This year, Boots are offering shoppers a free Soap & Glory phone charger and mirror handy handbag kit with every purchase for two or more full sized Soap & Glory products in the run up to Black Friday. The offer will run from 26th October until 22 November 2016, both online and in store.

On the build up to Black Friday, you will me able to mix and match on their 3 for 2 deals (anything with a green sticker). Unfortunately, you won't be able to enjoy the deal on the day.
