Brits Have Been Cooking Bolognese WRONG This Whole Time...

Italian chef, Antonio Carluccio has hit out at Brits for ruining the classic dish.

A top Italian chef says that British cooks need to go back to the chopping board, as he reveals we've been cooking classic Italian dishes WRONG for years. 

Antonio Carluccio has hit out as Brits for running faves such as spaghetti bolognese with too many herbs being one of the BIGGEST mistakes we make when cooking it.

The critically acclaimed chef, who has made a name for himself as an expert in Italian cuisine, revealed he was shocked when he first came to the U.K and saw what was being served in "so-called" Italian restaurants.

According to the industry veteran, spaghetti bolognese doesn't even exist in Italy, because traditionally they opt for tagliatelle pasta instead.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, he said: “There was spaghetti bolognese, which does not exist in Italy. In Italy, it is tagliatelle bolognese, with freshly made tagliatelle and bolognese without any herbs whatsoever.”

So if you're one to flavour your bolognese with basil, pepper and (god forbid!) cocoa powder then you're committing a cardinal sin.

Carluccio claims Britons have wrongly assumed that Italian dishes need herbs. 

He explained: “When you think Italy, you start to put oregano, basil, parsley, garlic, which is not at all [right]."

In fact, the word-renowned chef says that the proper way to make a tasty bolognese is a lot more simple.

It should include oil, onion, beef, pork, tomatoes, wine and tagliatelle pasta, as the flat texture absorbs the sauce much better than spaghetti. 

Carluccio, 79, joins a long list of chefs who have spoken out about the "abuse" of the recipe.
