Pucker Up! There's A New Cure For Garlic Breath
This could be the most revolutionary thing for date-nights to ever happen. Garlic mayo is back on the menu!
Garlic is one of life's biggest temptations. It makes our food taste SO GOOD but the pay off is death-breath and very likely soon after, no friends. This means that in all social situations, it's off the menu: no garlic bread, no garlic prawns and definitely no garlic mushrooms.
Scientists have found a new cure for garlic caused pongy breath and it could put the heavenly ingredient back on the menu.
Researchers at Ohio State University in America gave a group of (unlucky) participants 3gs of softneck garlic cloves, which they had to chew for 25 seconds (ew).
Then the garlicky participants were given either water, raw, juiced or heated apple, raw or heated lettuce, raw or juiced mint leaves, or green tea. The scientists then measured the levels of volatiles (the bits in the garlic that make your breath honk) on the breath.
A little predicatably, raw leaf mint was a winner but interestingly apple juice, raw apple and raw lettuce also halved the contraction of garlicky breath compared to just drinking water.
Apple juice and mint juice did reduce the chances of smelly breath but as much as the raw counterparts. And green tea? It did nothing.
So there you have it. You can now officially eat what you want on date-night (providing you have mint leaves in your handbag)!
