The Latest DVD Releases For The Perfect Girls Night In
Why is it that whenever you settle down to catch a film at home, you can never remember what is it you wanted to watch? If you're getting the girls over this weekend and struggling to decide on a film you'll ALL enjoy, then here are a few ideas to get you started. Pass the popcorn.
1. The Heartbreaking Drama: 'The Railway Man'
Combining the beauty of a costume drama with the romance of an epic World War II love tale, this film will capture your heart and your imagination. Colin Firth plays a British officer who is captured by the Japanese, whilst Nicole Kidman plays his wife Patti. Both actors sparkle in their respective roles, making this the perfect film to enjoy a glass of wine in front of.
2. The Soppy Rom Com: 'The Fault In Our Stars'
Sometimes you just have to be self indulgent, and watching a rom com whilst having a good old cry with your girl mates and scoffing chocolate definitely qualifies! Based on the book by John Green, this romantic drama about 16-year-old cancer patient Hazel Grace Lancaster will have you blubbing.
3. The One That'll Keep You On The Edge Of Your Seats: 'A Most Wanted Man'
The late and great Phillip Seymour Hoffman stars, alongside Rachel McAdams in this thrilling tale of espionage, based on the book of the same name by John le Carré. The author is one of the most the most respected writers of spy fiction, so if intrigue and a dark plot are the sort of thing your friends are into, then this is the film for you.
4. The Quirky Romantic Comedy: 'For The One I Love'
This movie is not your a-typical romantic movie. However, if you and your friends enjoy your love stories with a little more bite, then this is the movie for you. Sassy and smart, not to mention beautifully shot, this film has it all. 'Mad Men's' Elizabeth Moss is joined by Mark Duplass in this witty and unusual film.
5. For The Lols: 'Life After Beth'
There's been a bit of a trend for funny zombie movies recently. From 'Warm Bodies' to 'Night of the Living 3D Dead' and now this: 'Life After Beth'. In fact the genre's even gone and got it's own name and is now often referred to as 'zom com' or 'zomedy'. If you like your films to be bizarre mix of hilarious horror with some romance thrown in for good measure, then this won't disappoint!
6. For The Excuse To Scare Yourselves Silly: 'See No Evil 2'
For those of you who are into something a little more hardcore however, this follow up to the original 'See No Evil' is a proper gory horror film. Expect blood and guts aplenty in this gruesome sequel. But that's the point, after all, half the fun of getting your mates over for a scary-fest is all hiding behind the sofa anyway right? Watch if you dare!
7. For The Superhero Inside: 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
We've all got an inner geek and the latest fantastic movie in the 'X-Men' saga is a superhero film pièce de résistance. With a stella all-star line-up including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Halle Berry and Michael Fassbender (the list goes on!) and a budget to boot, it's up to Wolverine to head back to the past to try and change history before both humans and mutants are doomed forever!
8. The Chic Flick: 'Blended'
We've all been there; awful blind dates, holidays on family resorts… will the humiliation ever end? You and your gal pals will definitely be able to relate to the awkward situations Lauren Reynolds (Drew Barrymore) and Jim Friedman (Adam Sandler) find themselves in. Cringe!
9. For The Cheeky Factor: 'Sex Tape'
With all the recent media furore surrounding naughty homemade movies, this film comes at a very topical time.
