Sir Chris Hoy’s Top Team GB Athletes To Watch At The Rio Olympic Games
Get ready to cheer on Team GB with Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy's sporting stars to watch...
He may have won SEVEN gold medals, but that doesn't stop Sir Chris Hoy from marvelling at the other incredible sporting stars in Team GB!
With the Rio Olympic Games just around the corner, we asked Sir Chris to tell us some of his key athletes to watch.
Some have already won gold medals, while others are still on the road to being the best in the world. Can we beat the 65 medals we won at the London Olympic Games in 2012? Well, we don't have long to wait to find out...
Can Jessica Ennis-Hill smash the heptathlon again?
Is there anyone more hardcore than Jessica Ennis-Hill? The gold medal winner smashed the London Olympics and powered through the World Championships in Beijing last year just 13-months after giving birth! WOW.
Sir Chris says: "I became a father nearly two years ago and to think what she's gone through as a mother and then to get back into training, and not only that but become world champion, is incredible. She's a favourite for winning gold in the Heptathlon again, so she is going to be a big name in Rio."
Cycling stars (and Bradley Wiggins!) are going for gold
Sir Chris couldn't resist shining a light on his fellow cycling stars! He suggests looking out for Katie Archibald, who has joined the Pursuit team and "has a great chance of winning gold". There's also two-time gold medal winner Laura Trott who is on great form, and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins who has "come back to where it all started on the track", according to Sir Chris.
We can't wait!
Will Mo Farah be doing his signature 'Mobot' dance this year?
The two-time gold medal winner smashed his 10,000m and 5,000m races at London 2012, but will he do it again in 2016? We hope he does so we can see the 'Mobot' dance that became his signature move!
Mo has had three children since London 2012, and he's previously said that being a long distance runner is a lonely life...could this be his last Olympics? Only time will tell...
Gymnast Max Whitlock could be pommel horse champion...
23-year-old gymnast Max has a reputation for dedication and complete focus no matter the cost. He's already reigning World, European and Commonwealth champion, but now he's on a mission to win gold. Sir Chris will be cheering him on, although he may have some stiff competition in the form of fellow Brit, Louis Smith.
Look out for Max in the pommel horse discipline, which he is particularly amazing at!
Helen Glover and Heather Stanning are back and better than ever
This incredible duo have previously won gold medals for their rowing skills, and it looks like they might be in the running for another round of medals in Rio. Amazingly, they are undefeated as a pair in 30 races across four years and they made it look easy at the last World Championships. Plus, they're said to be getting better and better!
Sir Chris reckons they could dominate the sport like Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matt Pinsent. Now this we have to see!
Nicola Adams - everyone's favourite boxer!
With her wide smile and bubbly personality, Nicola stole hearts (and a gold medal!) at the London Olympic Games in 2012. As well as being reigning European champion, she's aiming to be the first British boxer since middleweight Harry Mallin in 1924 to win successive gold Olympic medals...GOOD LUCK NICOLA!
