Heart's being told fire crews will be at the scene of a big restaurant fire in Bury St Edmunds for at least the next couple of days.

120 people had to be evacuated from Strada in Bury St Edmunds  - which is in a Grade One listed building  - after it broke out on Saturday night.

Around 70 firefighters were called to the building after it started just before 9pm.

The back of the building also collapsed into the street behind and the fire is still burning in some of the rubble.

Whilst some shops in the surrounding area of the town centre remain closed for safety reasons, some of the following roads which were closed have now re-opened:

  • Skinner Street, The Traverse, Buttermarket and Cornhill.
  • Guildhall Street at the junction with Churchgate Street; Woolhall Street at the junction with St Andrew's Street South; and Abbeygate Street at the junction with Buttermarket.
Due to the hot spots of fire still burning in the rubble, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service says crews will remain at the site through the rest of the day and into tomorrow:
