Police are appealing for information after someone put a plastic can of petrol against the door of premises in Hamilton Road in Felixstowe around 11.15pm last night, Tuesday 3 September, and then set fire to an item close to it.

The initial fire was spotted by a member of the public and police were quickly alerted. Officers arrived within four minutes of the original call, found the fire and extinguished it before it reached the petrol can. Minor damage was caused to a wall and the ground.

Police are keen to trace a man described as white, with short dark hair, of stocky build, wearing a dark jacket and light coloured bottoms who was seen in the area around 11.10pm – 11.15pm.

It’s thought there would have been people in the area at the time and officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen someone matching this description.

Police are making enquiries to trace the man responsible but are asking anyone who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area, or anyone with information about the man, to call Suffolk Coastal CID on 101.
