Ipswich: Hazardous Spill Closes Road

Police had to cordon off an area of Norwich Road in Ipswich after a hazardous material spill at a dry cleaners.

A 50 metres cordon was put in place around Quality Dry Cleaners while firefighters tackled the spill this afternoon.

The chemical spill is believed to have happened as 120 litres of dry cleaning fluid (tetrachloroethylene) was delivered.

People living in the area were warned to close their doors and windows or to stay away and the road was closed for 4 hours but the cordon has now been lifted and warnings dropped.

The clear up operation involved five fire service crews and highways engineers.
