Ipswich: Rape Appeal

21 June 2012, 05:00

Police are carrying out inquiries in Ipswich after receiving a report of rape.

A 21-year-old woman was at the waterfront on Tuesday evening, when she became separated from friends and got into a silver three-door hatchback car that she believed to be a taxi.

She says the occupants of the car, two men, took her to a flat where they gave her a drink and one of them raped her.

The first man, who is alleged to have carried out the assault and was driving the car, is described as of Indian appearance, in his late 20s, 5 foot 5 inches tall, of large build with short black hair with a birthmark on the right side of his face. He was wearing a grey jumper and dark jeans.

The second man is described as white, in his late 20s, 5 foot 8 inches tall and of large build. He was wearing jeans and spoke with a local accent.

She managed to leave and was met by a friend on Warwick Road. She has been given support by specially-trained officers and support workers from the Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Officers are now carrying out inquiries to establish her movements between leaving the waterfront and being on Warwick Road. They want to speak to anyone who may have seen a distressed female, particularly in the Devonshire Road and Warwick Road/Alexandra Road areas of Ipswich in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Anyone with information should call DS Darren Bruce at Ipswich CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
