Ipswich: Sexual Assault in Alley

Police in Ipswich are appealing for witnesses after a serious sexual assault on a woman in Ipswich.

It happened at around 8.30pm last night, Sunday 9 October, when a 27-year-old woman who was sitting on a bench in Austin Street, Ipswich was approached by a group of four men.

The men started talking to the woman before she walked off, saying she needed to go home.

All four men walked with her and as they passed an alleyway leading off Austin Street she was pushed into the alleyway where one of the men sexually assaulted her.

Afterwards the woman carried on walking towards Hartley Street with the men following, once on Hartley Street she was pushed into another alleyway where she was sexually and physically assaulted by one of the men.

A member of the public saw the woman and helped her as the men walked off.

The men are described as:

Two white men in their late 20s/ early 30s of slim/small build, with Liverpudlian accents.

A mixed race man of average build and height; and

A mixed race man, around 6’2’’ tall of slim build and he wore a red top with a logo on the front.

Detective Inspector Stuart Sowerby said: “The investigation is still in the early stages and we are working with the victim to establish exactly what has taken place. We would urge anyone with information to contact us.”
