Lowestoft: Taxi Crash After Attempted Robbery

Police in Lowestoft are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery on a taxi driver, which resulted in the taxi colliding with a lamppost.

At approximately 2.15am Sunday 1st of January, a taxi driver picked up a fare of two men from near to the Winelodge on Bridge Road, Oulton Broad in his VW Sharan. The men stated they wanted to go to Yarmouth Road.

Along the journey the men said they were not going to pay whereupon the taxi driver turned into Yarmouth Road with the intention of driving to the Police Station. One of the men put his arm around the driver's neck and demanded money from him, this caused the driver to lose control of his car which then collided with a lamppost.

Both men ran from the vehicle along Yarmouth Road, with one turning into Station Road.
