An Apache helicopter from one of our airbases has been used to rescue a man off the coast.

It's after the motor vessel DP REEL, seven miles off Orfordness in Suffolk, informed Thames Coastguard they had a crewman onboard who was in need of medical attention at around 8.20am yesterday.

Thames Coastguard provided a medical radio link call between the ship’s master and a Doctor at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Aberdeen, who advised that the crewman should be evacuated from the ship to Ipswich Hospital.

The rescue helicopter from RAF Wattisham was called upon and air-lifted the crewman, who was of Polish nationality, to the hospital, where they were met by Felixstowe Coastguard and medical staff.
