The body of a man found in the River Gipping, Ipswich on Saturday morning is believed to be that of a missing 22-year-old man from Ipswich.

The man's mobile phone was found by a member of the public on the tow path near to the skate park in Ipswich just before 12pm.  The member of the public contacted family on the phone and they collected the phone and conducted their own enquiries throughout the day before reporting him missing to police at just after 7pm last night.  A hat believed to belong to the missing man was also seen in the water by the member of the public not far from where the phone was found.

Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue were called out by Suffolk police last night and conducted a search of the waterfront.  They found the hat on the river bank.  Police returned to the waterfront this morning in daylight and when the tide was out and located the body in the water.  The body has been recovered from the water and police are conducting enquiries in the area.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area of the skate park, Ipswich or the tow path between 10am and 12pm yesterday, Friday 4th February to come forward if they heard or saw anything suspicious or if they have any information which may help with this enquiry.
