Tory peer Norman Tebbit will not face criminal action over claims that he kicked a person wearing a dragon costume during Chinese New Year celebrations in Suffolk.

Lord Tebbit, who turned 79 on Monday, also grabbed a drum as he tried to stop noisy celebrations outside his home in Bury St Edmunds in February.

Police confirmed they received a complaint about his behaviour but on Monday said the disagreement was resolved by a community resolution.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said: "Following a complaint about the conduct of a man in Hatter Street in Bury St Edmunds on the evening of Tuesday February 16, a 79-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds has been spoken to and the incident has been dealt with by means of community resolution.''
