The Police cordoned off an area in Ipswich last night so they can establish how a body ended up in a river.

The area along London Road remains cordoned off today as Police try to establish the facts on how the woman came to be in the water. All emergency services attended the scene and the 66 year old female was taken to Ipswich Hospital where she is in a critical condition.

The woman was seen floating in the River Gipping just off London Road at around 5.15pm last night.

The Police would like to hear from anybody who was in the Bramford Road/Yarmouth Road area near to the tow path and the Handford Road/London Road junction area between 4pm -5.15pm yesterday so they can find out what happened. The woman is described as white and was wearing a brown/green jacket with a fur-lined hood, blue trousers and white shoes.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen the woman in the area matching the description is asked to call Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.
