Police Investigate Serious Sexual Assault

Investigations are underway after a woman reported being raped over the weekend.

Members of the public called police after hearing screaming around 4.20am. One resident opened their door and found a distressed 51-year-old woman who said she had been raped.

She says it happened in Wroxham Road in Ipswich around 4am on Sunday morning.

The woman had been out in Ipswich town centre and had shared a taxi with a man back to the Rivers estate.

It is thought both got out of the vehicle and the man then assaulted her. The woman sustained an injury to her head in the incident which she has received hospital treatment for. Specialist trained officers are currently with the woman and they will be working with her to get a full account of what happened. Police are also working to trace the man who shared the taxi with her and are asking him to come forward.

He is described as white, 20-30 years old, of smart/casual dress and of a medium build

Detectives would also like to speak to anyone who may have been in this area between 3.30am and 4.30am this morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.
