A small controlled explosion has taken place in Stowmarket as part of an ongoing investigation following the discovery of a number of weapons at a home in Wyverstone last week.

A number of items have been removed from the property and taken to Stowmarket police station. Suffolk Police called in the  the bomb disposal squad to carry out a controlled explosion.

It  happened at around 6pm in a field near to the police station.

Police say they wanted to reassure residents that there was no risk to the general public and that controlled explosions such as these are standard procedure when dealing with potentially dangerous items.

A cordon is also still in place at the Wyverstone property and officers remain on scene.
