Suffolk: 7-year-old Critically Ill After Crash

A seven year old girl's on life support in hospital and a woman's been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car crash.

A seven-year-old girl has been taken to hospital with a fractured neck following a collision at The Street in Eyke in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 22 December.


A 32-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following the single vehicle crash which occurred just before 4.30am.

 

Police were initially called to reports that a VW Golf had crashed into a tree and that several people had got out and were walking away.

 

Officers attended and discovered there had been five people in the vehicle - a man, a woman and three children aged seven, nine and 14. The 14-year-old was uninjured, the nine-year-old sustained cuts and bruises and but the seven-year-old was more seriously hurt and is now on life support at Ipswich Hospital.

 

A 32-year-old woman, who was arrested shortly after the collision, is currently in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where she is being interviewed by officers.

 

Anyone who saw the VW Golf in the area in the early hours of this morning or anyone who saw the crash is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Team at police headquarters on 101.
