Police are appealing for help in tracing a Hollesley Bay prisoner who failed to return from a community work placement.

Edward MacDonald, 46, who is serving a life sentence after being jailed for arson, was given a temporary release licence to attend premises at Ransomes Europark in Ipswich yesterday, Thursday 28 June, however he failed to return to the prison by the 4.45pm licence end time.

MacDonald is described as white, 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build, with cropped grey hair and a Scottish accent. He has a scar on his right arm.

He has family in Great Yarmouth and other contacts in Leiston and East Sussex and it’s possible he may be in any of these areas or still in the vicinity of Ipswich.

If anyone sees MacDonald they should phone the police with the details. They should not approach him or take any further action.

Anyone who may have seen him, or who may have any information about where he is now, is asked to contact Suffolk Police or their nearest police station using the new national number 101.
