Teenage Girl Victim Of Indecent Assault

A teenage girl has been indecently assaulted by a man after he started walking with her on her way home.

She was approached by a man on Norwich Road in Ipswich on Tuesday night, near the pedestrian crossing at Meredith Road.

The man walked with her for a while, told her he was Turkish and asked her inappropriate questions before touching her inappropriately. He carried on pestering her, cornering her in the doorway of a bookies near to the Suffolk Punch pub.

Another man on a bike stopped to help the girl and waited with her until her friend arrived to meet her. Police are keen to speak to this man as he may hold information that could assist with the investigation.

The offending man has been described as white, about 40-years-old, around 6 foot tall and of large build, with black but greying hair and stubble on his face.

He also smelt of alcohol, smoked, and was wearing a faded, well-worn yellow puffy coat, a white knitted jumper with red on it and dark coloured trousers.

He was carrying a takeaway and a Nokia mobile phone and had a Bluetooth headset in his left ear.

After being interrupted, the man walked off back up Norwich Road out of town.

Calls in relation to this incident should be made to DC Laura Hicks at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
