Police say they are treating a fire at a community centre in Trimley St Martin as arson.

Officers are asking anyone who was in the High Road area of Trimley late last night or early this morning to come forward after a fire at the Memorial Hall around 12.30am.

An investigation is now underway and police believe it was started deliberately.

A neighbour raised the alarm after spotting smoke coming from the roof of the hall.

Officers have told Heart that it appears someone set light to wheelie bins containing empty paint tins at the side of the building and the fire spread to the hall, destroying the roof and causing extensive heat and smoke damage inside.

Police dogs and the helicopter immediately started searching for anyone who might have been involved.

And this fire is being linked to a fire at a barn at the Three Mariners Inn at High Road in Trimley around 11.30pm on Monday night.
