Brighton Half Marathon 2016: Details
More than 10,000 people are expected to line the streets of Brighton on Sunday. See below for details of road closures, parking and transport options.
The Vitality Brighton Half Marathon returns for its 26th year and the 2016 event looks like it will be even bigger and better than previous years.
With more than 12,000 participants signed up and thousands more spectators expected to cheer the runners on, there will be some travel disruption.
Tom, Nicola & Jack caught up with the event organiser, David Hill, who told them what they can expect from the race.
Whether you're taking part yourself, heading along to give encouragement, or just want to avoid the road closures, we have all the information you need below.
There is no parking on Madeira Drive, and the course will be closed from 8:15am. Park & Ride is available from the Brighton Racecourse priced at £10 per car, which is 1 mile from Madeira Drive – you can book Park & Ride HERE. Regular buses will shuttle you to and from the Park & Ride site and will drop you in the Race Village in plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere and get yourself ready for the start. Alternatively, there are NCP car parks in the centre of Brighton.
Train lines into Brighton can be subject to engineering works at weekends, so please check trains can get you to the start line in plenty of time. Click HERE for information on planned improvement works.
The following roads will be closed (timings are approximations only):
04:00-18:00 – Madeira Drive
08:15-10:00 – Old Steine, Marlborough Place, Gloucester Place, Grand Parade, Pavilion Parade
08:15-11:15 – Marine Parade, Marine Drive
08:15-13:00 – Kings Road to West Street (Westbound & Eastbound lanes)
09:15 – 12:00 / 13:00 – Kings Road, Kingsway (Westbound lane only)
Wherever possible, alternate routes will be advised on the day of the event.
All the road closures will be staffed by event stewards and where applicable Sussex Police. Other roads adjacent to these roads may be affected.
Roads between St James Street, Bristol Road, St Georges Road, Chesham Road and Marine Parade will be stewarded.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the course and timings are provisional at this stage and may be subject to change.
