Battle Mum Will Be Missed Forever

The family of a woman who sadly died after she was hit by a car while out walking in Battle have paid tribute to her.

Debbie Masters, 37, of Coronation Gardens, Battle, sustained critical injuries after a car collided with her and her family in Upper Lake, Battle, on Sunday afternoon (19 March). She died in hospital.

Her family said: "Debbie was a loving wife and mother, who was adored by her husband, and will be missed forever, not matter what."

Sergeant Peter Verney, of the Sussex Police roads policing unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family at what is a very difficult time, and we would ask people to respect their privacy while they try to come to terms with what has happened."

Police are seeking witnesses to the collision at 1.55pm involving  a black Volkswagen Beetle which had been travelling west when it collided with the family.

The woman driver and the three children, including an infant in a pram, sustained shock and minor injuries and were treated at the Conquest Hospital, St Leonards. The father of the children suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, for treatment.

The car came to rest after crashing into the front of a cafe window, leaving customers trapped inside.

Police examining the circumstances of the crash are investigating reports that the 34-year-old car driver may have been under the influence of alcohol when it occurred.

Under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, blood samples were taken when she attended hospital and these have now been sent for analysis.

The A2100 was closed either side of the crash scene at its junction with the A271 North Trade Road and its junctions with Mount Street and Marley Lane.

They are asked to email or phone 101 quoting Operation Willington.
