Brighton & Hove; Pride 2013 Is Here!

Up to 100,000 people are expected to head to Brighton & Hove to watch the Pride parade from 11am, followed by Icons in the Park event. Alison Moyet, original Sugababes trio MKS and Ms Dynamite are all set to entertain Preston Park with their performances on Saturday.

Road Closure information:

The Pride Parade sets off at 11am from Madeira Drive and travels west along Kings Road, north up West Street, east along North Street and north to Preston Park. The rear of the parade is expected to arrive at the park at approximately 2pm.

During the parade the route and its side junctions will be closed to traffic. Roads affected include:

New England Road closed from Preston Circus to New England Street.
Preston Circus and London Road/Preston Road.
Northbound traffic from Old Steine diverted along A270 Lewes Road.
Southbound traffic from A23 diverted east to Preston Drove or west to South Road.
Kings Road (eastbound) and its junctions with Preston Street, Cannon Place and West Street will close at 10.50am until the Parade leaves Kings Road and moves into West Street.
Once the Parade leaves the city centre, roads will reopen, however some closures may remain until it is safe to reopen them. This listing is subject to change on the day if the Police and Highway Authority consider public safety issues exist.

Brighton & Hove buses


The following arrangements will apply from 1000 onwards in the Open Market area, 1030/1045 onwards in the Old Steine area. Oxford Street and Cheapside will be closed at 1000 and roads around the Old Steine will be progressively closed from about 1040.

Based on timings provided by the Council, services will be restored from about 1230 in Old Steine, 1300 around London Road/Open Market. Services will be diverted away from London Road Shops until approximately 1445. Routes 5/5A will run via Beaconsfield Villas and Preston Drove through to close of service.

Reduced headways will apply on Services 1, 5/5A/5B, 7 and 49 during the period of the road closures.

Route 1
During the parade, operates between Whitehawk & Rock Gardens and between Churchill Square & Mile Oak.

Buses from Whitehawk run via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, Upper St.James Street to Rock Gardens, return direct.

Buses from Mile Oak run via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Rd, return direct.

Routes 2/2A
During the parade, operates between Rottingdean & Rock Gardens and between Churchill Square & Shoreham/Steyning.

Buses from Rottingdean run via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, Upper St.James Street to Rock Gardens, return direct.

Buses from Steyning/Shoreham run via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Rd, return direct.

Routes 5/5A/5B
During the parade, operates between Patcham/Hollingbury & Open Market and between Churchill Square & Hangleton.

Buses from Patcham/Hollingbury run via Preston Drove & Ditchling Road to Open Market, returning via Lewes Road & Union Road to Ditchling Road.

Buses from Hangleton run via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Rd, return direct.

NOTES: From the end of the Parade to 1445, southbound buses will operate via Preston Drove and Ditchling Road then direct to the bus lane at St.Peters Church. Northbound buses will be diverted via Lewes Road, Union Road, Ditchling Road & Preston Drove.

From 1445 until close of service, Routes 5/5A operate via Beaconsfield Villas and Preston Drove in both directions. Route 5B reverts to normal route throughout

Route 6
During the parade, buses from Downs Park will be diverted via Montpelier Road, Seven Dials & Terminus Road to Brighton Station. Buses towards Downs Park will run via Upper Gloucester Road, Buckingham Road, Dyke Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Road.

Route 7
During the parade buses will operate between George Street and Brighton Station only, via Seven Dials, Bath Street, Dyke Road, Buckingham Road, Upper Gloucester Road to Brighton Station (Surrey Street), returning as normal.

A limited shuttle service will run from the Marina to Rock Gardens, buses from Marina run via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, Upper St.James Street to Rock Gardens, return direct.

Routes 12/12A
During the parade, buses from Eastbourne run via A259 to Rock Gardens. Return from Lower Rock Gardens to A259.

Route 13X
During the parade, buses will operate non-stop between Seaford and Brighton Station, operating via A26, A27 and Dyke Road in both directions. Churchill Square will not be served.

Routes 14/14C
During the parade, buses will run between Hangleton and Brighton Station/Surrey Street via Seven Dials, Bath Street, Dyke Road, Buckingham Road, Upper Gloucester Road to Brighton Station (Surrey Street), returning as normal, also between Newhaven and Rock Gardens via A259 to Rock Gardens. Return from Lower Rock Gardens to A259.

Route 14C buses from Peacehaven run via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, Upper St.James Street to Rock Gardens, return direct.

Routes 21/22/24/26/28/29/38/46/48/50/78/79
During the Parade, these buses will terminate at Open Market, returning via Lewes Road

NOTE: From 1000 onwards, and from the end of the Parade to 1445, southbound buses will operate from Ditchling Road direct to the bus lane at St.Peters Church. Northbound buses serving Lewes Road and Elm Grove will operate via Lewes Road direct, those serving Ditchling Road will run via Lewes Road, then via Union Road to Ditchling Road. London Road Shops will not be served.

Route 23
Will operate as normal throughout

Route 25
During the Parade, all buses will terminate at/start from Lewes Road Bus Garage.

Route 27
During the parade, operates between Saltdean & Rock Gardens, turning via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, Upper St.James Street to Lower Rock Gardens

Also between Westdene & Brighton Station via Seven Dials, Bath Street, Dyke Road, Buckingham Road, Upper Gloucester Road to Brighton Station (Surrey Street), returning as normal.

Route 37
During the parade buses will operate between Bristol Estate and St.Mary’s Church, turning via St.Georges Road, Upper Bedford Street, Eastern Road and Upper Rock Gardens, returning as normal.

Route 46
During the parade, buses from Hollingbury will terminate at Open Market, returning via Lewes Road and Union Road. Buses from Southwick will terminate at Brighton Statuion and be diverted via Montpelier Road, Seven Dials & Terminus Road to Brighton Station. Buses towards Southwick will run via Upper Gloucester Road, Buckingham Road, Dyke Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Road.

Route 49
During the parade, buses will operate between East Moulsecoomb & Open Market, returning direct via Lewes Road. Buses between Portslade Station and Churchill Square run via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Clarence Square/Western Rd, return direct.

Route 77
During the parade, buses will operate between Devils Dyke & Brighton Station, via Seven Dials, Bath Street, Dyke Road, Buckingham Road, Upper Gloucester Road to Brighton Station (Surrey Street), returning as normal.

Route 81
During the parade, buses from Goldstone Valley will operate as Service 81C - normal route to Palmeira Square, then via Furze Hill, Upper North Street, Regent Hill to Western Road/Clarence Square. Return via Western Road, Montpelier Road, Furze Hill to Palmeira Square and normal route.

A limited shuttle service will operate between Open Market and Rock Gardens via Lewes Road, Elm Grove, normal route through Queens Park, then via Eastern Road, Upper Bedford Street, St.Georges Road to Rock Gardens, returning via Rock Gardens direct to Egremont Place and normal route to Open Market.

NOTE: From 1000 onwards, and from the end of the Parade to 1445, buses from Queens Park will terminate at Open Market. Return journeys will start from Open Market, running via Lewes Road direct to Elm Grove. London Road Shops will not be served.

The 1438 journey from Open Market to Imperial Arcade will be curtailed at Old Steine.

Southern Trains

Brighton Pride takes place on Saturday 3rd August and as we are expecting large numbers of people to use Brighton station for the event, a queuing system will be in place at the station throughout the day. Please ensure you allow for this by giving yourself extra overall travelling time.

For the safety and comfort of all, Preston Park station will be closed all day. Please use Brighton station which is just a short walk away from the start of the parade.
