Delays Expected At Gatwick
Passengers faced long delays last night and this morning after the main runway was closed to all flights on Sunday afternoon.
At around 4pm the airport tweeted to say the runway is "temporarily closed" while an investigation is carried out.
All flights inbound and outbound were delayed for a number of hours.
The main runway reopened after 8pm last night leaving passengers facing long delays as the airport dealt with a backlog of passengers.
A spokesman from Gatwick told Heart:
“Gatwick is returning to normal after the temporary closure of the runway yesterday afternoon.
“Some minor knock-on delays are occurring this morning while some of yesterday's flights are accommodated in today's schedule.
“Gatwick Airport will continue to work closely with our airline partners and do everything possible to assist our passengers and get them moving. Gatwick would like to apologise to everyone affected by yesterday's disruption.
“We advise all passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline.”
