A 48-year-old man appeared in court today accused of trying to smother his terminally ill father to death in Eastbourne DGH
Joseph Peachy is alleged to have tried to suffocate Albert Peachy while visiting him at Eastbourne District General Hospital in East Sussex on Monday evening.
Peachy, of Badlesmere Road, Eastbourne, was charged with attempted murder and appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court this morning, Sussex Police said.
He was also charged with assaulting two police officers and a member of hospital staff as they tried to detain him.
In addition, he also faces a public order offence.
JPs remanded Peachy in custody and he will appear at Lewes Crown Court on a date to be fixed, a police spokesman said.
