Eastbourne rapist behind bars

Khasraw Ahmed, 30, is starting a seven-year sentence for raping a woman in Eastbourne a year ago.

Ahmed was convicted on Thursday 29 April after a four-day trial at Lewes Crown Court. He was found guilty of raping a 21-year-old woman at a flat in Jevington Gardens in the early hours of Sunday 19 April last year.

Detective Constable Julian Harris said: "This is a substantial sentence and reinforces the message that we will pursue such offenders relentlessly.

"We were particularly impressed by the courage of the victim in coming forward and subsequently giving evidence in what must have been very trying circumstances for her."

Detectives say they are still looking for a second man in connection with the attack. He has been named as Aga Aji Alan, 24, who is described as 5'6", of slim build and Middle Eastern appearance. He has scar on his right leg from a bullet entry and exit wound.

The rape featured on the BBC TV 'Crimewatch UK' programme in February. The broadcast resulted in more than 35 calls from across the country, which detectives are still following up.
