Brighton Flat Death: Two Charged

A man and woman were remanded in custody today when they appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who was found beaten to death in his bed.

Jonathan Ellison, 48, was discovered by friends in his ground-floor flat in Brighton city centre last Friday.

Officers said the "vulnerable'' man, known as Jon, had received some of the "worst deliberate injuries'' they had seen.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from several substantial head injuries "consistent with being caused by a long blunt instrument''.

David Sole, 32, of no fixed abode, and Denise Antonia, 33, of Appledore Road, Brighton, appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court today, a spokesman for Sussex Police said.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on April 26.
