Gunshot Victim Family Tribute

The family of the man who shot himself on the roof of his garage last week have described him as a person who "dedicated his life to his family and friends".

A post-mortem examination has revealed Brian Palmer, 63. from Littlehampton, died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police were called to the family home in Horsham Road early last Friday morning after Mr Palmer's wife had dialled 999 to say she had been assaulted by her husband.

When police arrived they found Mr Palmer on the roof of his garage brandishing a shotgun. He shot himself before an armed police unit could get there.

Mr Palmer's family has issued this tribute. "Brian's loving family wish to acknowledge his sad and tragic death during the morning of September 30th.

"Brian happily dedicated his entire life to his family and friends, constantly striving to support all around him.

"Brian was the person you knew you could rely upon when others faded, the electrician you could call out on Christmas day, and a wonderful husband, father, Grandad, brother and son who put all around him before himself.

"Brian will be truly and sadly missed by us all."
