Police have released CCTV images of a man and a woman who racially abused a woman as she travelled with her two young children on the bus.

The Brighton woman of southern European/Mediterranean appearance was on the 81 bus at Elm Grove with her 5 and 7-year-old children when the elderly couple directed racist abuse at her on Monday 14 June.

PC Tash Swan says:

"Racist abuse is inexcusable and will not be tolerated by Sussex Police. The victim was with her two young children and was highly distressed by the unprovoked verbal attack. I'm appealing to any witnesses or to anyone who thinks they recognise this couple to contact us immediately."

The woman is described as white, mid to late 60's, 5'4", slightly overweight, with short white layered straight hair, wearing a dark green khaki style coat with a beige top underneath. She was reading a Metro newspaper.

The man, who is believed to be the woman's husband, is described as white, mid to late 60's, 5'6", slightly over weight, round face, with white hair and balding on top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
