WATCH: Heart Breakfast Listeners Re-build Classroom
Two weeks ago, staff and pupils at St Nicolas Primary School in Portslade were left devastated when they arrived one morning to find that their brand new outdoor classroom had been set on fire and destroyed by vandals.
The original classroom was designed to get the pupils out in the fresh air during the summer months and was only completed a couple of days before the fire. The pupils had not been able to enjoy the new facility before the vandalism, which just left a mound of charred wood and ash.
After hearing about the fire, Heart Breakfast decided to act.
Jack The Lad led the campaign to rebuild the outdoor classroom and had an unwavering belief that the people of Sussex would get behind the project.

Andy Richbel, Head Teacher of St Nicolas CE Primary School, said: “When our outdoor classroom was set on fire, the children were really upset. Our community has pulled together with determination to put it back together immediately. As the children grow up and become adults, they’ll remember what the community did for them and will want to help others in their hour of need. We are so grateful to Heart for all their support and without help from the Heart Breakfast team, we would not have been able to get the message out so quickly."
