A 40-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a 10 year old girl.

It's alleged the girl was approached by a man in Asquith Road at around 5.55pm on Wednesday (5/6) who invited her back to his house.

The girl ran off and alerted her parents, who flagged down a passing police car.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Matthew Jarman from Oxford Force CID said: “We take all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and are fully investigating these claims.

“I appeal to anyone who saw the incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time, to get in touch immediately.”

The incident is not being linked to an attempted abduction in Blackbird Leys last month.

The man is currently in police custody.

Anyone with information can contact Det Sgt Jarman on 101.
