Last Day For Chieveley Incinerator Comments

31 January 2012, 05:00

It's the last day for people to have their say on plans for a waste burner in West Berkshire.

Grundon has submitted plans to West Berkshire Council for the incinerator at an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Newbury.

The company says the facility at the Old Kiln Quarry will process up to 250,000 tonnes of waste and generate enough renewable energy for thousands of homes.

Grundon have said they will put £125,000 a year into a community trust fund to support good causes in the area that hosts the waste burner.

The Government's also pledged to reward local authorities that host renewable energy schemes and West Berkshire Council stands to make £1 million per year for the lifetime of the scheme.

But campaign group West Berkshire Against Grundon Incinerator have told Heart they want people to protest against the plans.

People in the community have until January 31 to lodge any complaints. Check out the plans here.
