Controlled Explosions Carried Out in Oxfordshire Woodland
Police say several controlled explosions have been carried out in Oxfordshire woodland after 'suspicious items' were found.
In a statement, Thames Valley Police said:
"Officers are currently in Checkendon, Oxfordshire, following a report of suspicious items being located.
"Thames Valley Police attended woodland off Exlade Street yesterday (20/7) along with Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians. Several controlled explosions took place yesterday to make the items safe.
"Exlade Street between the Highwayman pub and the slip road to the A4074 is currently closed while a cordon is in place in the area, and is likely to remain closed for some time while enquiries continue.
"This is not being treated as a terrorism related incident.
"Officers will be continuing to investigate the circumstances in the area today and anyone with any concerns or any information can speak to an officer on the scene or to call the neighbourhood team via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101."
Oxford will join cities across the country later protesting Donald Trump's upcoming state visit to the UK.
Search and Rescue specialists have found human remains at the site of the explosion in the Gibbs Crescent area of Oxford.
