Free Dental Check Vouchers Handed Out

19 March 2012, 06:00

More than 5,000 vouchers for a free dental check-up are being given out by the NHS in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire in March.

The campaign encourages adults to see a dentist for a free check-up. Adults can apply for a voucher by contacting 01865 337030 or by emailing their details to smile@oxfordshirepct.nhs.uk to check their eligibility.

The voucher must be used before the end of September 2012 with the dentist checking for tooth decay and the signs of mouth cancer.

Nicky Wadely, Deputy Head of Primary Care Contracted Services said:

"Finding a NHS dentist in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire is easier than you think. We are keen to encourage people to take up the opportunity for a free check-up by applying for a voucher if they have not seen a dentist in the last two years."

Jenny Donagy, Consultant in Dental Public Health said:

"During a dental check-up your dentist will check the health of your teeth and gums and look for signs of mouth cancer and other problems which are best treated early.

"They will give you advice on how to care for your mouth and how to prevent tooth decay and gum problems.  They will also discuss with you any treatment you may need.

"Children can already have a free check-up and many people may find that they are exempt from patient charges or can get help with health care costs."

Depending on your dental problem from April 2012 NHS charges will be £17.50, £48.00 or £209.00 for complex denture, crown or bridge works.
