Long Delays Expected On Reading Roads

25 July 2011, 06:00

Drivers are being warned of long delays as Reading Borough Council's summer resurfacing programme starts.

The £850,000 improvements are expected to last about 8 weeks.

Oxford Road is included in this year's programme and parts of it will be closed at certain times.

From the 1st to the 5th of August the road between Grovelands Road and Beresford Road will shut.

While the weekend of the 30th and 31st of July the carriageway between Norcot Road and Grovelands Road and between Western Elms and Beresford Road will shut.

Diversions will change according to which part of the road is being worked on.

There'll also be road closures on other routes where roads are too narrow for trucks to pass each other safely.

Tony Page, Lead Councillor for Regeneration, Planning and Transport at the council said:

"This work is a significant investment by the council in improving surfaces for all road users. Unfortunately consecutive cold winters have had a detrimental effect on surfaces and, as recent press articles have highlighted, there are significant works required to provide safe surface, along the Oxford Road in particular."
