Explosives were aimed at the first floor of the home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, from a car in the street outside, police said.

A 44-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were woken by the noise at about 4.30am on Sunday and managed to escape to safety without injury as the fire engulfed the roof.

Officers believe a black Audi A3 was involved.

A 23-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody.
