Mercury Cream Warning in Aylesbury

A face cream sold in Aylesbury's been found to contain mercury.

Trading Standards in Buckinghamshire say tests on Formula AA Arche Pearl Cream have shown it contains the substance, which is banned in make-up products. The mercury content could prove harmful.

The cream, thought to come from Thailand, is also advertised as a treatment for acne and a foundation.

The Trading Standards team say it's important to check packaging. Cosmetics should display a full ingredients list, an address within the European Union and the country of origin.

All cosmetics must undergo a safety assessment but some cosmetic products imported into the European Union have not had the assessment completed as required by EU law.

Buckinghamshire Trading Standards Team Leader Gina Green said: "Untested or inadequately tested products may contain mercury, steroids or other banned substances, so it is very important to check any cosmetics before you buy."
