Oxford Christmas Light Night

Around 30,000 people are expected in Oxford later for the Christmas Light Night which'll involve a children's lantern procession.

There'll will also be live music and dance on the St Giles Stage.

The event will run from 5pm to 10pm with the lantern procession starting in George Street at 6pm.

Road closures are in place:

St Giles' - Closed 00:01 Friday 23 to 04:00 Saturday 24 November.
From the junction with Banbury and Woodstock Roads to Beaumont Street / Magdalen Road East / Magdalen Road West.

Banbury Road - Closed 00:01 Friday 23 to 04:00 Saturday 24 November.
Closed southbound at the junction with Parks Road (all traffic must turn left onto Parks Road). Access to The Old Parsonage, businesses, colleges and residents will all be made via Woodstock Road to ensure the smooth flow of traffic at this junction. This will clearly signed. The left hand junction of Parks Road junction leading south onto Banbury Road will be coned to force all traffic into the right hand lane turning right away from St Giles' down the Banbury Road.

Woodstock Road - Closed 00:01 Friday 23 to 04:00 Saturday 24 November.
Closed at the junction with St Margaret's Road with access to frontages up to Little Claridon Street.  Full closure at Little Claridon Street. Security will be on duty at this point to assist those who require access into St Giles’.

Beaumont Street - Closed 00:01 Friday 23 to 04:00 Saturday 24 November.
Closed from the junction with St Giles' to the junction with St John Road.
Access only beyond this point for the Randolph Hotel.

Pusey Street - Closed 00:01 Friday 23 to 04:00 Saturday 24 November.
Pusey Street will be accessible for residents only to park within allocated resident’s bays. There will be no exit from Pusey Street into St Giles'.

Cornmarket Street - Closed 16:00 to 23:00.
From St Aldate's to Magdalen Street West

Broad Street - Closed 16:00 to 22:30.
Broad Street will be closed at the point of bollards restriction, west of the junction with Turl Street. 
All parking will also be removed in Broad Street (including central pay and display bays) to allow the bus services to operate from this area. We have closed the west end of Broad Street to allow the safe movement of the 20,000+ people who attend the event.

George Street - Closed 16:00 to 22:00.
Closed east of the junction with Gloucester Place

Diversions

  • Traffic from Woodstock Road and Banbury Road for west Oxford (Jericho / Botley) will be diverted via Saint Margaret's Road and Walton Street.
  • Traffic from Woodstock Road for east Oxford (Marston / Headington / Cowley) will be diverted via Moreton Road and Marston Ferry Road.
  • Traffic from Worcester Street / Beaumont Street will be diverted via Walton Street.
