Oxfordshire War Memorials To Become Listed

11 November 2016, 07:53

Historic England has announced fifty war memorials across the country are to receive the protection of listed status.

They include remembrance sites here in the Thames Valley:

  • Eaton Hastings War Memorial, War Memorial Green, Roadside Cottages, Lechlade Road
  • Summertown War Memorial, outside Summertown Church Hall, Banbury Road
  • Kidlington and Hamlets War Memorial, churchyard of the Church St Mary the Virgin, Kidlington, Cherwell

It comes as the country prepares to mark Armistice Day for those who have sacrificed themselves to protect our freedom.

Prince Harry will observe the two minute's silence - by laying a wreath at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Tonight England's and Scotland's footballers will go against a FIFA ban and wear poppies.
