Reading Torch Relay Celebrations

After all 20,000 tickets for Reading's Torch Relay Evening Celebration got snapped up - an extra 1,000 are now up for grabs.

There'll be loads of entertainment and a chance to have a picture with the flame at the Madejski Stadium on July 10.

There's also a performance from The Tree of Light, a community project looking at how to create a sporting and cultural legacy.

The local groups involved in the project include: Indian Community Association, Read Dance and Theatre, Reading College , Highdown Secondary School , Caversham Primary School , Oxford Road Primary School . Geoffrey Field Junior School , Southcote Primary School and Brookfield 's Special School .

Reading Borough Council's Lead Member for Culture and Sport, Councilor Marian Livingston, said:

"The excitement for the Olympics has been slowly building throughout Reading and its sure to reach fever pitch when the iconic torch visits our town.

"I want to encourage residents to get into the Olympic spirit, enjoy a once in a generation event and start the sporting celebrations by attending what is sure to be a wonderful event at the Madejski."

Andy Murrill, Chair of the Reading 2012 Partnership Board, wants people to give the torch relay a warm welcome;

"The torch relay coming to Reading will be an incredible two days for our town and the evening celebration will be an occasion people will never forget.

Gates will open at 3.30pm and the event will last from 5pm until 8pm.

1,000 extra tickets are now on sale at the Reading Arts Box Office.
