Officers were called out to Little Bridge Road in Bloxham just before 8am yesterday.
They say they found a 21-year-old man in the water there.
Paramedics were also called and tried to save the man’s life.
He was taken to Horton General Hospital in Banbury but later died.
Police are telling us they are treating the death as unexplained.
Detective Inspector Ivan Reaney from Thames Valley Police said: “At this time we are treating this as an unexplained death, and officers will be carrying out enquiries to ascertain the movements of the man prior to his death and establish how he came to be in the stream.
“I would ask anyone who lives in the area, who may have seen or heard anything to come forward and speak to our officers as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information about what has happened is being asked to contact Det Insp Reaney on the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line, 101.
