Wokingham: Plans For £6m Station

8 November 2012, 06:00

It's hoped a multi-million pound station for Wokingham will bring in more businesses and create new jobs.

Work on the new £6m station will start on November 28th and is due to finish in August next year. It will have better access and will include improved shopping, better waiting areas and new information screens.

A new footbridge will link both platforms and provide step free access from the main station entrance. A new access road will be built and a new interchange will provide improved links with other public transport.

The imrpovements are being delivered by the Network Rail and South West Trains Alliance and are funded by Wokingham Borough Council.

Work is also being done on the roads around the station to try and cut congestion. A decision on final plans for the new station link road is expected be made by the end of the year.

Cllr Keith Baker is from the borough council and is telling Heart all the work being done should encourage businesses to set up there:
