Disused Torquay Hotel Destroyed By Fire

A disused hotel in Torquay has been destroyed in a fire overnight the seafront remains closed over fears the 4-storey building could collapse at any time.

Ten people have been evacuated from adjacent properties to a nearby hotel.

The crews in attendance are from the following stations - Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Exeter and Ivybridge.

100% of the Conway Court Hotel has sustained fire damage to all floors and roof.  There is 5% water and 10% smoke damage to an adjoining property.

The crews used 4 main jets, 1 hose reel jet, compressed air foam, 3 breathing apparatus, 2 water shuttles using bowsers from street hydrants, 2 aerial ladder platforms as water towers, 135 ladder and thermal imaging cameras.

The incident has been scaled down but there are still 4 pumping appliances and 2 aerial ladder platforms in attendance damping down.
