Look At the New Link Road

Plans for the soon-to-start South Devon Link Road are being shown off in exhibitions across the area.

The exhibitions will outline the schedule for the project - detailed plans of the new road will also be on display and a range of experts will be available to answer questions.

A newsletter has also gone to people living in Kingskerswell, Milber, Edginswell and Aller and is also available on the web site www.southdevonlinkroad.co.uk

The 5.5km dual carriageway, which will provide a long awaited bypass for Kingskerswell, was given full approval by the government in May.

A week later, the contractor, Galliford Try was appointed to build the major new road. Work on the new road is due to begin in the autumn and be completed by December 2015.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: "Work on the South Devon Link Road will begin very soon, so it's important for people to come along to the roadshows to find out more about how and when developments are planned.

"We have always been clear that we expect work to cause minimal disruption and we are committed to maintaining regular communication with residents and businesses. The road will bring major benefits to the area - both economic and social - and the improved transport system will also dramatically reduce congestion, improve road safety, enable better public transport and make a significant impact on air quality."

Torbay Mayor Gordon Oliver said: "I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and view the plans. The South Devon Link Road project is so important to our economic strategy to deliver growth and jobs, not only in Torbay but across South Devon. Companies looking to invest in Torbay in the past have regularly confirmed that road access is a critical factor in their decision making."

"It's estimated the new road will deliver around 7,960 jobs in the South Devon area including 3,554 jobs in Torbay. Being better connected to the UK will enable many of our local businesses to reposition their offer and attract more companies to the region, and therefore create new jobs. Within Torbay we already have many successful businesses and an unrivalled quality of life; soon we will have much better road access which will help existing businesses grow and new businesses join us."
