Torbay Gets New Mayor

Torbay has a new Mayor.

Conservative Gordon Oliver is Torbay's new mayor.

He beat the first ever mayor of Torbay Nick Bye into second place polling  a total of 12,716  first and second preference votes.  Mr Bye, who was standing as an independent  secured 9,631  first and second preference votes.

The result was delayed until friday afternoon by the Returning Officer who wanted to ensure a 'safe and accurate decision'.

It's the second time a mayor has been elected, after the post was created by Torbay Council in 2005.
